FDA Committee Approves Adding Peptides to Compounding Pharmacies’ Permitted List Despite Scientists’ Concerns

On Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee (PCAC) voted in favor of adding peptides to the list of substances that compounding pharmacies are permitted to produce. This decision diverged from the position of agency scientists who raised concerns about the lack of demonstrated benefits of these peptides.

The committee reviewed public comments and presentations from FDA staff regarding the peptides BPC-157, KPV, TB-500, and MOTS-c. Despite the scientific concerns, the PCAC approved their inclusion on the compounding list.

This move marks a significant change in FDA policy concerning compounded drugs, allowing pharmacies greater latitude in producing these peptides.
