Washington — The U.S. Secret Service confirmed on Thursday, July 24th, 2026, that a member of Vice President JD Vance's protective detail is under investigation for leaking sensitive information. Anthony Guglielmi, the Secret Service's chief of communications, stated that the probe is administrative but could escalate into a criminal inquiry.

"A member of the Vice Presidential Protective Division is the subject of an administrative investigation, and potential criminal inquiry, involving allegations of compromising operational and information security," Guglielmi said. He added, "any conduct that potentially threatens the safety of a protectee will not be tolerated."

The inquiry comes a week after MS NOW published a report citing unnamed sources who expressed frustrations within Vance's security detail. The report claimed agents shared concerns about Vance and his office pressuring them for trips and assignments considered by some as an inappropriate or unprecedented use of government resources compared to previous vice presidents. MS NOW also reported that a series of unplanned, "off-the-record" movements had negatively affected morale among agents protecting Vance and his family.

Vice President Vance, first in line to the presidency, and his family receive round-the-clock protection. His primary residence is at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. CBS News reported earlier in July that the Vance family was preparing to lease an additional house in Middleburg, Virginia, approximately 40 miles from the capital, with the Secret Service arranging additional security for the property.
