The final stage of the 2026 Tour de France, traditionally held in Paris, has been shortened and rerouted due to ongoing wildfires in France. Originally planned to cover 133 kilometers (82 miles), the stage will now span just 89 kilometers (55 miles), with riders starting on the Champs-Elysees instead of Thoiry, west of Paris.

This adjustment was made to reduce pressure on emergency services, as many first responders and security officers have been diverted to combat the wildfires, especially those raging in the southwest Gironde region. The Amaury Sport Organisation, which manages the Tour de France, stated: “As numerous wildfires are currently affecting France, particularly the Gironde region, emergency services are fully mobilised to combat the blazes, while internal security forces are working to secure the affected areas and protect the population.”

Despite the changes, the stage will still conclude on the Champs-Elysees, with riders completing two additional circuits before tackling the Montmartre climb. The Montmartre circuit has gained popularity after its use in the 2024 Paris Olympics and its addition to the 2025 Tour de France.

Earlier in the race, fans were advised to avoid the final 40 kilometers of stage 3 due to wildfires and the deployment of emergency teams in that area.
