In an open letter published on Instagram on Monday, July 27th, 2026, Infantino emphasized the tournament's success in promoting "happiness, unity, safety and togetherness."

The 2026 World Cup, held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, was won by Spain. Infantino noted that millions of fans worldwide experienced joy and togetherness during the event, which critics allegedly overlooked. "You were so consumed by hate and criticism that you missed it all," he stated.

FIFA faced scrutiny during the tournament over several issues, including debates about US visa restrictions affecting supporters and officials from various countries, as well as concerns involving teams from conflict-affected regions such as Iran. Additionally, Infantino's letter followed controversy over FIFA's handling of US striker Folarin Balogun's disciplinary case, where an automatic one-match ban after a red card was suspended following intervention by US President Donald Trump.
