Massie, who served in the House of Representatives for over 13 years, lost the May 2026 Republican primary in Kentucky's 4th Congressional District to Donald Trump-backed challenger Ed Gallrein.

Additionally, commentary from Kent on X suggested that Israel aims to involve the U.S. more deeply in the conflict, hoping that American casualties might sway public opinion toward escalating the war with more strikes and ground troops.

Massie also advocated for an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops, urging President Donald Trump to use the current pause in fighting to pull forces out and pursue quiet economic diplomacy to reopen channels such as the SOH and BAM.
