Rachel Accurso, known as Ms. Rachel, a popular children’s educator and YouTube personality, has stirred controversy with a social media post regarding the investigation into the death of Nolan Wells. Wells, 18, disappeared on July 4, 2026, during a boat trip with high school friends to Horn Island, a barrier island about eight miles off Mississippi's Gulf Coast. His remains were found two days later on the northwestern tip of the island by a National Park Service ranger, while his friends returned to shore without him.

In a post on Monday, Accurso suggested that race influenced the handling of the case, writing, "We know the investigation and everything that followed would have been different if Nolan Wells were white and his friends were Black." She implied that if the racial roles were reversed, Wells’ friends would have been arrested immediately.

Accurso’s comments have drawn pushback, including from former Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg, who cautioned against such claims from online personalities. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump, representing the Wells family, revealed findings related to the case at the NAACP National Convention in Chicago, according to the Associated Press.

Accurso has also recently made headlines for pushing back against President Donald Trump’s sharing of a viral video showing children wearing hijabs at a Minnesota kindergarten graduation.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Roger Mitchell reportedly stated that without additional information, he could not rule out certain possibilities in the investigation, meriting further inquiry.

Ms. Rachel is scheduled to appear on the "TODAY" show in September.
