An investigation into the Interlochen Center for the Arts, a prestigious Michigan fine arts school and summer camp, has uncovered reports of sexual misconduct involving Jeffrey Epstein, a major donor, along with allegations against 47 faculty and staff members dating back to the 1950s.

Two individuals who attended Interlochen reported sexual conduct by Epstein, the financier who died by suicide in jail in 2019. The school had removed Epstein’s name from a lodge following his 2008 conviction for sex offenses in Florida; the building, renamed Green Lake Lodge, was recently demolished after the US Justice Department released millions of pages of documents related to him.

The law firm Sanghavi, hired in 2024 to investigate abuse claims, collected 70 accounts from alumni alleging "physical conduct of a sexual nature" by faculty and staff affiliated with Interlochen from the 1950s through the 2010s, mostly before 2000. The 97-page report described the findings as "simply devastating," noting reports of grooming, flirting, sexual touching, and sex.

In a letter posted online, Interlochen’s president Trey Davey and board chair Barrett Rollins expressed deep regret for the harm caused, stating, "While the vast majority of the incidents described in the investigation took place many decades ago, and reports of abuse at Interlochen have significantly decreased over the past 25 years, the passage of time does not diminish the experiences of our alumni. Sexual abuse committed by an adult in a position of power or trust against a student is wrong, then and now."
