Indie singer Noah Kahan criticized President Trump on Tuesday, July 29th, 2026, over the use of his song "American Cars" in a recent Instagram post by the White House. Kahan stated in the comments, "Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration."

The White House had captioned the post, which featured the president at the General Motors factory in Milford, Michigan, with "Made in America is BACK," adding that "For decades, globalists sold out Michigan autoworkers, shipping jobs overseas and gutting Detroit’s factories. Now Michigan has a President who fights for workers and puts America FIRST."

Over the weekend, pop singer Katy Perry also criticized the unauthorized use of her song "Firework" as the background music for a White House TikTok video showing strikes on Iranian targets. Perry said on the social platform X, "I did not approve this, I was not asked, and I absolutely do not condone it."

When contacted for comment, the White House referred to a post from spokesperson Kaelan Dorr responding to Kahan, stating, "Symptoms of [Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS)] apparently include having a northern attitude," referencing a song by Kahan.
