Oscar-winning actor and musician Glen Hansard tragically died in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, at the age of 56. The fatal single-vehicle accident occurred just before 4:30 a.m. at the Strawberry Beds in West Dublin, according to the Irish Times.

An Garda Síochána, Ireland's national police service, confirmed that a man in his 50s died as a result of the crash but did not initially disclose the individual's identity. Garda reported that the motorcyclist was treated at the scene but was pronounced deceased shortly afterward. The crash site has been preserved for forensic collision investigation, and local traffic was diverted.

Hansard's talent agency, ATC Management, confirmed his death in a statement: “With broken hearts we announce the passing of Glen Hansard in the early hours of this morning.” They requested privacy for the actor’s grieving family.

Hansard was best known for winning the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008 for "Falling Slowly," which he co-wrote with Markéta Irglová for the film "Once." He also played Outspan Foster in the film "The Commitments" while pursuing a successful music career.

In 1990, Hansard formed the alternative rock band The Frames, releasing six studio albums and achieving widespread success in Ireland. He also performed with the folk duo Swell Season and found success as a solo artist.
