Former President Barack Obama has endorsed Democratic Iowa state Representative Josh Turek in his campaign for the U.S. Senate. Obama appeared in a video with Turek playing a modified game of horse on a basketball court, concluding with the message, "Let's make sure that we send Josh Turek to the United States Senate." He added, "Now the ball's in your court Iowa."

The Senate seat is open following Republican Joni Ernst's announcement last year that she would not seek re-election in 2026. Turek faces Republican U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, who is backed by former President Donald Trump.

Turek has faced criticism as an "absentee legislator" after reportedly missing nearly 60% of votes. The endorsement comes amid ongoing political contests in Iowa, with both candidates actively campaigning.

Obama's endorsement reflects his continued involvement in Democratic politics following his recent declaration of transitioning from a "player to coach" role within the party.
