Republican Senator John Cornyn continues to block Todd Blanche's path to confirmation as attorney general, citing "new complications" as of Thursday morning, July 30th, 2026.

Cornyn is specifically demanding that the Department of Justice provide written confirmation that the nearly $1.8 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund" is officially terminated. Additionally, he seeks a narrowing of the scope of President Donald Trump's immunity deal with the IRS.

Cornyn told ABC News, "I know that Todd Blanch understands it, but I think he's probably getting some pushback from the White House, and that's making things more complicated than there needs to be."
