Alex Ovechkin, the NHL’s all-time leading goal scorer and Washington Capitals star, accidentally interrupted a couple’s wedding photo shoot at a hotel in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday, July 30th, 2026.

The moment was captured on video as Ovechkin casually strolled down a hotel staircase holding a CCM hockey stick, coinciding with the couple’s photo session commemorating their big day. Rather than disrupt the shoot, the couple embraced the surprise appearance and had the photographer continue snapping pictures.

Ovechkin was in his native Russia participating in a charity game called the Match of the Year, which featured notable NHL and KHL players. This offseason event included highlights such as Philadelphia Flyers forward Matvei Michkov scoring a slick Michigan move goal that gained social media attention.

Coming off a 64-point season in which he appeared in all 82 games, Ovechkin remains a key figure for the Capitals, who missed the playoffs last season but have made roster additions over the summer.
