Multiple self-identified Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)-linked individuals have signed a statement endorsing "Chinese socialism." The statement, issued by a group called Friends of Socialist China, declares their aim to support the People’s Republic of China and promote understanding of Chinese socialism.
The statement emphasizes that "the global advance to socialism is indispensable if humanity is to survive and to flourish," citing socialism as necessary to prevent climate breakdown, end poverty, establish global peace, and dismantle structural discrimination and oppression. It characterizes the record of socialist countries as "overwhelmingly positive."
It further asserts that "the continued survival of Chinese socialism is a crucial matter not only for the Chinese people but for all humanity" and resolves to "support, defend and build understanding of Chinese socialism."
Among the signatories are Mirah Wood, described as the "Co-Chair Middle East & Africa Subcommittee, DSA International Committee" in the United States, and John McGrath, a member of the "DSA International Committee (anti-war)" in the United Kingdom. Both have appeared on the signatory list as far back as 2022 in archived web pages.
The pledge and its signatories were reported in the United States, with imagery including the national flags of the United States and China fluttering at the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, China, and references to events such as a Democratic Socialists of America election night party in Los Angeles on November 4, 2025.
