President Donald Trump is holding Friday's Cabinet meeting on the road at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland. This marks the first Cabinet meeting at Camp David during his second term after an earlier attempt in May was canceled due to bad weather.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt described the 13th meeting of the Republican president’s second term as “a lot of fun and something different for the Cabinet to experience together.”

The meetings at Camp David have become known for their lengthy sessions, often featuring administration officials offering extensive praise for the president. Trump’s Cabinet meetings can last up to three hours, with the president allowing updates from all departments and agencies.

In a departure from previous presidents, Trump permits the news media to remain for the entire duration of the meetings, a move Leavitt says demonstrates his commitment to transparency.

Camp David, established in 1942 during Franklin Roosevelt’s presidency, has been used by every president since. The Secret Service began concerns about safety on open water during World War II.

During his first term in 2019, Trump announced on social media that he canceled a secret weekend meeting at Camp David with Taliban and Afghanistan leaders, scheduled just days before the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The cancellation followed a bombing in Kabul that killed a dozen people, including a U.S. soldier.
