In an interview on "Next Question with Katie Couric," Kelly attributed part of the Democrats' low approval ratings to far-left calls to abolish police, eliminate prisons and the border, and defund the Pentagon. He stated, "There are folks out there that say things that just don’t make sense to the American people, like abolish the police or get rid of jails and prisons, get rid of the border, defund the Pentagon."

Kelly distanced himself from these positions, emphasizing that "That’s not the Democratic Party I’m in. Those aren’t the policies I support." He noted that voters sometimes associate the party's most progressive proposals with all Democratic candidates, which he sees as problematic.

A Fox News poll from April 2026 found that 42% of registered voters viewed the Democratic Party favorably, while 58% viewed it unfavorably. Kelly suggested that the far-left agenda contributes to this unfavorable perception.

Regarding his political future, Kelly said he is "seriously considering" a 2028 presidential campaign, encouraged by his wife, former Representative Gabby Giffords. He indicated that his decision would depend on his family and his assessment of his chances to win. Kelly also mentioned that he has raised or given away a combined $10 million during the current election cycle.

Kelly praised his wife’s dedication to public service, saying, "She is all about public service, and everybody needs to do their part."
