A 20-year-old Singaporean woman, Aishah Siregar, who was found safe in Cambodia after being reported missing, stated on Saturday, August 1, 2026, that she traveled there of her own accord to work as an English teacher. In a video released by Cambodian authorities, Ms. Siregar said she left Singapore because she found life stressful and wanted to "find my own path."

"It is entirely my choice," she said, adding that she had not been forced or scammed into traveling to Cambodia. "To clarify once again, I have not been involved or been forced to partake in any scamming activities or any criminal activities," she added.

The one-minute video was recorded at the Phnom Penh Municipal Police Headquarters and released after Singapore police announced on Friday that Cambodian authorities had located Ms. Siregar safely in the country.

Cambodia's Ministry of Interior reportedly said she told investigators that she traveled to Cambodia due to personal family issues and deliberately cut off communication with her family after leaving Singapore.

According to findings cited by the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams and reported by the Khmer Times, Ms. Siregar left Singapore on July 28, 2026, aboard Emirates flight EK-348 and arrived at Techo International Airport the same day.

Before she went missing, her last message to her mother indicated she was going to school. However, when her family went to pick her up as usual, they found that her WhatsApp and Telegram accounts had been deleted. This raised fears that she might have been lured to Cambodia by a scammer, prompting the family to appeal publicly for help.
