Vincent Pastore, best known for his role as Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero in the acclaimed US television series The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80. He was found at his home in New York City, according to US media reports.

Pastore's acting career spanned over three decades, beginning after his service in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Early in his career, he appeared in films such as Goodfellas and Carlito's Way, and later made television appearances on shows including Law & Order, General Hospital, and Hawaii Five-O.

His role in The Sopranos brought him widespread recognition. Despite his character being killed off in the second season, Pastore appeared in all six seasons of the critically acclaimed show. In 2000, he and his fellow cast members won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Pastore was remembered by colleagues for his passion and generosity. "He loved being an actor. He was passionate about his craft and was always encouraging, respectful, and generous with young actors, taking the time to offer guidance and support whenever he could," said Attermann. Another tribute stated, "For me, losing Vinny is deeply personal. Over more than three decades, I had the honor of watching not only his remarkable career but also the incredible person he was. I will miss his friendship, his loyalty, his humor, and his heart."
