John Limbert, a former US hostage held during the 1979 Iranian Revolution at the US embassy in Tehran, stated that Washington "can’t bomb and assassinate its way to a better relationship" with Iran. Limbert, who later served as US deputy assistant secretary of state for Iran, emphasized that neither side can dictate terms to the other.
Speaking to host Steve Clemons, Limbert explained that US leaders often believe that increased military action will force Iran to comply with their demands. Conversely, Iranian leaders think that continued attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz will eventually compel the US to yield to their wishes.
Limbert's comments highlight the ongoing stalemate and the limitations of using force in US-Iran relations.
