TOKYO, Aug 3, 2026 – Japan's Finance Ministry announced that it conducted a coordinated yen-buying intervention with the United States on Friday, August 1st, to address recent "excessive volatility and disorderly movements" in the yen. The ministry emphasized that it would not hesitate to take further action if necessary.
In a statement issued on Monday, Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said the ministry "remains attentive and in close communication with counterparts at the U.S. Treasury." This joint effort reflects ongoing cooperation between Japan and the US to stabilize currency markets amid fluctuations.
The intervention aimed to curb disorderly market behavior and support the yen's value. The Finance Ministry's readiness to act again signals vigilance over currency stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
