Aboubaker, a Sudanese refugee, left his homeland in 2022 at the age of 23 seeking a better future. His journey took him across five countries and the Sahara Desert before he finally reached Europe.

Now living in Madrid, Spain, Aboubaker is rebuilding his life through football, work, and support from a close-knit Sudanese community. Despite the distance, he remains deeply connected to Sudan, watching from thousands of kilometers away as violence continues to engulf his home region of Darfur. He anxiously awaits news from the family he left behind.

This story of displacement, resilience, and the search for belonging is captured in a short documentary directed and produced by Chiara Brambilla for Al Jazeera Originals. The film highlights the personal impact of war and the challenges faced by refugees adapting to new lives far from home.
