The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired left-handed pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers at the MLB trade deadline on Saturday, August 2, 2026. Skubal, a two-time reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, was emotional upon receiving the news during the Tigers' 8-6 victory over the Athletics.

Drafted by the Tigers in 2018, Skubal developed into a pitching star before joining the Dodgers, who are the World Series champions for the past two years. The 29-year-old had expressed in July his preference to finish the season with Detroit and compete for a World Series championship, a title that has eluded the Tigers since 1984.

“I’m excited to be a Dodger,” Skubal said. “I’m excited to get down there and meet all those guys and chase three championships in a row.” The Dodgers currently lead the National League West and were already favorites to become the first team to win three consecutive World Series titles since the New York Yankees from 1998 to 2000.

Skubal joins a star-studded Dodgers roster that includes Shohei Ohtani, further strengthening their bid for a historic three-peat.
