NEW YORK — In the 12 months through March 2026, fewer Chinese buyers purchased homes in the United States compared to the previous year. This decline coincides with several U.S. states enacting laws that restrict certain foreign nationals from buying property. Despite the drop in numbers, Chinese buyers who do purchase homes tend to opt for higher-priced dwellings.

Among foreign buyers who did not complete a home purchase, the primary reasons cited were the inability to find suitable properties and affordability concerns.

This trend marks a shift in the foreign buyer landscape in the U.S. housing market, with Chinese buyers moving from the top position to third place.
