Newly released dashcam video from the Florida Highway Patrol shows a state trooper weaving through hundreds of stopped vehicles on Interstate 75 before engaging in a high-speed chase that reached speeds of approximately 140 mph.
The incident occurred near mile marker 266 in Thonotosassa, Hillsborough County, Florida, around 1:30 a.m. on August 3, 2026. The trooper was responding to a street takeover that had shut down all northbound lanes of the interstate. As the trooper arrived, people were seen running between vehicles and scrambling back into their cars.
Motorists gradually moved aside as the trooper navigated through the stopped traffic and pursued a fleeing green BMW driven by 25-year-old Yulian Lugo. Authorities said Lugo accelerated to about twice the posted speed limit before exiting the interstate. The chase ended when Lugo pulled over and exited his vehicle.
Separately, the Augustine Beach Police Department reported thwarting a planned "teen takeover" before it began, after investigators monitored plans circulating online.
The dashcam footage provides a clear view of the trooper’s response and pursuit during the event.
