The Senate Judiciary Committee is set to vote Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, on the nomination of acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. This development follows a deal reached with Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) that includes the Department of Justice issuing a formal order to permanently terminate the anti-weaponization fund. Cornyn’s spokesperson, Natalie Yezbick, stated the order will clarify in a binding document that the audit settlement scope is limited to the plaintiffs, including the President, and the IRS.

On Sunday, the Senate Appropriations Committee announced it had reached a deal on a stopgap measure to keep the government funded beyond September.

Separately, President Donald Trump announced that talks with Iran would begin Monday, August 4th, 2026, aiming to open the Strait of Hormuz and wind down the ongoing war. However, Iran’s foreign minister reportedly denied that any talks were planned.

Additionally, President Trump is scheduled for a series of policy meetings on Monday and will sign an executive order at 1:30 p.m.
