TAIPEI — Joseph Wu, secretary-general of Taiwan’s National Security Council (NSC), has warned that China’s extensive deployment of coast guard and other vessels to enforce its territorial claims and rebrand maritime aggression as routine policing poses a significant challenge not only to Taiwan but to the wider region.
In a rare exclusive interview with Nikkei Asia at the Presidential Palace in Taipei, Wu emphasized the broader implications of Beijing’s maritime pressure. He welcomed cooperation between Tokyo and Manila as a positive step in addressing these challenges.
