Over the weekend, a series of wildfires ignited across the Spokane, Washington area due to very strong winds and extremely dry conditions. As of Sunday night, the Autumn Lane Fire in Spokane County, along with the Old Trails and Fairview fires in nearby counties, were burning approximately 7,708 acres combined and remained zero percent contained.

Authorities have reported that these three fires, collectively named the Spokane Complex Fire, have destroyed or damaged at least 600 structures, including homes. Ash Sollie was seen standing in front of her grandparents' home in Spokane after it was destroyed by the wildfire on August 2, 2026.

In response, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) authorized the use of federal funds on Sunday to combat several fires, including the Autumn Lane Fire. Governor Bob Ferguson, speaking from a command center in Spokane, urged residents to "please continue to stay vigilant if you're in those areas."

Meanwhile, drought conditions persist in the region, with more than half of Oregon facing severe drought and about 20% experiencing extreme drought. Additionally, Denver is expected to reach 100 degrees on Monday, potentially tying a record high before cooler air arrives.
