Lebanon and Israel convened a fresh round of direct talks in Rome on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, under the sponsorship of the United States. This marks the seventh meeting since March, when Hezbollah's rocket attacks against Israel escalated the conflict, prompting Israeli airstrikes and a ground invasion.

The leader of Hezbollah publicly criticized the ongoing negotiations, stating that the talks brought "shame" and "humiliation" to Lebanon. Despite these objections, the dialogue continues as part of efforts to address the conflict in the Middle East.
