An Indian-flagged commercial ship, the MSV Faize Noore Oliya, sank in the Red Sea on Tuesday, August 4th, 2026, following an attack near the Yemeni port city of Hodeida. The coastguard rescued all crew members, including 13 Indian nationals and one Yemeni, according to a local official in the Yemeni city of Mokha.

Indian Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal stated on social media that the vessel was “hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters.” Yemen’s internationally recognized government blamed the Iran-backed Houthi rebels for the attack, as reported by the official Saba news agency.

New Delhi condemned the incident as an “unprovoked” aggression. The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with the Houthis having declared a Red Sea maritime blockade of Saudi Arabia last month and claiming several attacks on oil tankers and infrastructure since then.
