Amanda McKinney (R) and John Duresky (D) are projected to advance to the November 2026 general election for Washington’s 4th Congressional District, aiming to succeed retiring Rep. Dan Newhouse (R), according to Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ).

The two candidates emerged victorious over 11 others who sought to replace Newhouse, who announced in December 2025 that he would not seek another term. Newhouse was known for voting to impeach former President Trump after the January 6 Capitol attack and successfully fended off Trump-backed challengers in GOP primaries in 2022 and 2024.

McKinney, a Yakima County commissioner, secured endorsements from former President Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), and Turning Point Action, a conservative group founded by the late Charlie Kirk. Trump praised McKinney on Truth Social in January 2026, calling her "a very successful Business Executive, Civic Leader, and Highly Respected Yakima County Commissioner" and giving her his "Complete and Total Endorsement."

Duresky, a retired Air Force major with nearly 40 years of service, earned endorsements from the Washington State Labor Council, the Washington Education Association, and Track AIPAC, a grassroots organization opposing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). His campaign website highlights his decades of public service and his decision to "slow down."

Despite the Democratic challenge, the Cook Political Report classifies Washington’s 4th Congressional District as solidly Republican, indicating a likely GOP hold in the upcoming election.
