The volcano’s most distinctive feature, its nine-kilometre wide caldera, Cha Caldera, is shown in this image. The crater wall in the west towers one kilometre above the crater floor. The eastern half of the crater wall is gone, erased in a massive collapse deep in its ancient history. Evidence of the volcano’s more recent eruptive history is written on the surface of the crater as well. In the centre of the crater, a steep cone named Pico rises about 100 meters above the crater rim (more than a kilometre from the crater floor). The young peak reaches 2,829 meters above sea level, making it the island’s highest point. Dark trails of hardened lava from the volcano's most recent eruptions stream out of the crater east into the Atlantic Ocean. The volcano last erupted in 1995. The sepia stream of lava from that eruption is pooled near the crater rim west of Pico. Remarkably, the crater is inhabited. A straight road cuts between the crater wall and Pico, ending near the vent that erupted in 1995. Bright white dots on the north side of the crater are villages. Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has officially joined Chilean football giants Colo-Colo after transferring from Portuguese side Chaves. The 40-year-old was presented on Tuesday, August 5th, 2026, in Santiago, fulfilling a long-held ambition to play for a major club.

Vozinha, who gained international recognition for his impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup, described the tournament as the greatest achievement of his football career but emphasized that his focus is now on contributing to Colo-Colo's success. He stated, “The World Cup is in the past.”

Colo-Colo received special permission from Chilean football authorities to allow Vozinha to wear his nickname on the back of his shirt instead of his surname. The nickname, meaning "little granny" in Portuguese, honors his grandparents and holds deep personal significance; Vozinha intends to keep wearing it until retirement.

Arriving in Santiago on Sunday, August 3rd, 2026, Vozinha was warmly welcomed by supporters and trained with his new teammates on Tuesday. He could make his competitive debut as early as the league match against Unión La Calera on Sunday, August 10th, 2026.

Despite receiving several offers after the World Cup, Vozinha said Colo-Colo was always his preferred destination.
