Senator Gary Peters of Michigan has predicted that far-left Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed will win the upcoming Senate race against Republican Mike Rogers, despite Peters having endorsed El-Sayed's primary rival, Representative Haley Stevens.

El-Sayed, a progressive insurgent and former Wayne County Health Department Director, secured the Democratic nomination in what became the most expensive Democratic Senate primary in history, with over $80 million spent. His victory is seen as another win for left-wing Democrats challenging the party establishment.

Peters told Fox News Digital, "I think if you look at the issues broadly, the differences between Abdul El-Sayed and Rogers when it comes to fighting for families in Michigan, it's pretty broad." When asked if El-Sayed's far-left positions might help Republicans, Peters acknowledged the differences but remained confident in El-Sayed's chances.

Peters also noted Michigan's diverse electorate, recalling that Bernie Sanders defeated Hillary Clinton in a Michigan primary years ago, suggesting that progressive candidates have found success in the state before. Sanders, who appeared at a rally where El-Sayed spoke, continues to be a figure associated with the progressive movement.

Peters' endorsement of Stevens was part of a broader effort by mainstream Democrats to prevent a progressive candidate from winning the nomination, as Republicans viewed El-Sayed's nomination as potentially advantageous for their chances to flip the Senate seat.

"And in the end, that's why he will prevail," Peters said, expressing his belief in El-Sayed's eventual victory.
