On Monday, August 6th, 2026, a projectile struck a crowded beach in the Russian Black Sea resort village of Arkhipo-Osipovka near Gelendzhik, killing seven people, including four children, and injuring 58 others. Vacationers were sent scrambling for safety as the incident unfolded.

Video footage captured the moment when a drone appeared to veer sharply after sounds resembling gunfire and then dove toward the beach, causing a fireball explosion that sent bystanders screaming.

The Russian Mission in Geneva posted on X that the "bloody attack" was carried out by a drone launched by Ukraine, accusing Kyiv of targeting civilians. Regional Governor Veniamin Kondratyev, in a post on Telegram, said preliminary reports found several deaths were caused by "falling drone debris."

Russian official Kovalenko also stated on Telegram that "Russian air defense shot down a drone over people lying on the beach."

The incident is part of what has been described as one of Ukraine's largest drone attacks against Russia. Some commentary attributes the deaths to decisions by Russian leadership, stating, "It was Putin, his air defense, who killed these Russians. His decisions in response to their decisions launched a chain of death for Russians," and "Putin deliberately killed these people. Because if he had not started the war and struck Ukraine, they would be alive."

Emergency and special services are actively working at the crash site.
