The subpoena initiates an official investigation into potential financial incentives, awards, professional opportunities, grants, and Covid-19 guidance that may have impacted Florida businesses and consumers.

Uthmeier alleged that Fauci may have personally profited from the guidance he issued during the Covid-19 pandemic, which could constitute a violation of Florida law despite government officials' immunity in their official capacities. He criticized Fauci’s pandemic diary, stating it focused more on self-promotion than on legitimate safety concerns related to mRNA vaccines, accusing him of pushing for book deals, awards, and fame while allegedly deceiving and harming Floridians.

The investigation follows renewed scrutiny of Fauci by some lawmakers on Capitol Hill regarding his handling of the pandemic. Last week, Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing to avoid answering questions from Republicans. Notably, President Joe Biden issued a pre-emptive pardon for Fauci just before leaving office in January 2025.

Uthmeier highlighted that Fauci’s diary entries detail substantial awards, including grants, book deals, and board positions linked to his public recommendations as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which affected Florida.
