Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced on Wednesday, August 6th, 2026, that his office is joining West Virginia Attorney General John McCuskey and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill in issuing a subpoena to Dr. Anthony Fauci. The subpoena demands information for an official investigation into awards, professional opportunities, financial incentives, grants, and Covid-19 guidance that impacted Florida businesses and consumers.

Uthmeier alleged that Fauci may have personally profited from the Covid-19 guidance he issued, which could potentially violate Florida law. He criticized Fauci’s diary entries, stating they focused more on self-promotion than on legitimate safety concerns regarding mRNA vaccines. According to Uthmeier, Fauci was pursuing book deals, awards, and financial gain while Floridians were allegedly harmed by his misrepresentations.

The subpoena follows renewed scrutiny of Fauci by some lawmakers on Capitol Hill concerning his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. At a recent Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment to avoid answering questions from Republicans. Prior to leaving office in January 2025, President Joe Biden issued a pre-emptive pardon for Fauci.

Uthmeier also noted that Fauci’s diary entries detail substantial awards, including grants, book deals, and board positions linked to his public recommendations as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which affected Florida.
