The subpoena initiates an official investigation into potential financial incentives, awards, grants, and professional opportunities Fauci may have received connected to his Covid-19 guidance that impacted Florida businesses and consumers.

Uthmeier alleged that Fauci may have personally profited from the guidance he issued during the pandemic, which could constitute a violation of Florida law despite the immunity government officials typically have in their official capacities. He claimed Fauci’s diary entries revealed a focus on self-promotion, including pursuing book deals, awards, and other opportunities, while Floridians were allegedly harmed by misrepresentations related to mRNA vaccine safety.

The investigation follows renewed scrutiny of Fauci by some lawmakers on Capitol Hill over his handling of the Covid-19 pandemic. Fauci recently invoked the Fifth Amendment during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing to avoid answering questions from Republicans. Notably, President Joe Biden issued a pre-emptive pardon for Fauci just before leaving office in January 2025.

Uthmeier emphasized that Fauci’s entries detailed substantial awards linked to his public recommendations as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, which affected Florida. The subpoena aims to explore these connections further.
