Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for hundreds of South Sudanese nationals residing in the United States is set to end following a federal court ruling. On Friday, August 7th, 2026, US District Judge Patti Saris of Massachusetts rejected a legal challenge brought by immigrant rights organizations, including the New York-based African Communities Together, which sought to preserve TPS protections for South Sudanese individuals.

This decision follows a recent Supreme Court ruling that permitted the US government to revoke TPS protections previously granted to Haitians and Syrians. The ruling clears the way for the Trump administration's effort to terminate TPS for South Sudanese nationals living in the US.
