On Friday, August 7th, 2026, President Donald Trump publicly urged Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act before their recess, emphasizing the bill's role in safeguarding women's and Olympic sports. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the legislation as "a great Bill," expressing hope that the Senate would remain in Washington, D.C. until its passage.

Trump warned that without the bill, "millions of young Athletes will be hurt, programs will be canceled, Women's and Olympic Sports will go away, the fans will be robbed, and Universities will go broke." He asserted, "Nobody has done more to protect Women Athletes than me — and this Bill CLEARLY protects the Laws in 27 States protecting Women's Sports, and banning Men from Women's Sports."

The president also called on the House and Senate to work together, preferably in a bipartisan manner, to send the bill to his desk for signing, stating, "I think we have no choice." He urged lawmakers to "stop grandstanding, and try getting this done," adding, "We have to get that done. If we don’t, we’re very foolish."

These remarks followed similar comments made by Trump the previous day while welcoming U.S. Olympians to the White House Rose Garden.

Additionally, the White House released an official memo addressing misconceptions about the Protect College Sports Act, clarifying that the bill would not override existing state laws that prevent biological men from competing in women's sports. The memo emphasized that states retain the authority to legislate on this issue.

The Protect College Sports Act is currently navigating the legislative process in Congress. If it clears both the House and Senate, it will proceed to the president for signature.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon also highlighted the Supreme Court's recent ruling upholding transgender sports bans, underscoring the need to protect women's sports and addressing concerns about fairness, lost opportunities, and safety for female athletes. She criticized Democrats for dismissing these issues and reaffirmed the Trump administration's commitment to defending women's rights under Title IX.
