Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska announced she will oppose President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Todd Blanche. Murkowski’s opposition narrows Blanche’s path to confirmation, as the acting attorney general can now only afford one more Republican defection to secure the permanent position.

So far, the only other Republican holdout is Senator Bill Cassidy from Louisiana. Cassidy, a former physician, expressed concerns about Blanche’s ability to lead the Department of Justice independently, noting that Blanche once served as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer.

These developments highlight growing skepticism within the GOP regarding Blanche’s nomination to lead the Justice Department.
