Former NFL player and current ESPN NFL analyst Sam Acho spoke at the Ronald Reagan Foundation Center on Civility & Democracy’s inaugural Reagan Civility & Democracy Forum last week, advocating for improved civility among Americans, particularly in sports.

"We talked about civility in sports and how many of the same attributes athletes use can be applied to civil discourse: sportsmanship, winning and losing the right way, and playing within a set of rules," Acho told Fox News Digital.

Reflecting on his experiences, Acho recalled how NFL locker room discussions, including during Colin Kaepernick's national anthem protests, did not shy away from difficult topics. He emphasized the importance of athletes using their platforms responsibly and with integrity.

Acho also shared insights from his broadcasting career, stating, "Well, look, I went there and I'm a broadcaster and we won or we lost or they got the call right."

The discussion included references to recent NFL preseason games, such as the Buffalo Bills facing the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit.

Acho's comments underscore the potential for sports dynamics to serve as a model for civil discourse and accountability in broader society.
