Former NFL player and current ESPN NFL analyst Sam Acho spoke at the Ronald Reagan Foundation Center on Civility & Democracy’s inaugural Reagan Civility & Democracy Forum last week, advocating for improved civility among Americans, particularly in sports.

"We talked about civility in sports and how many of the same attributes athletes use can be applied to civil discourse: sportsmanship, winning and losing the right way, and playing within a set of rules," Acho told Fox News Digital.

Reflecting on his experience during Colin Kaepernick’s national anthem protests, Acho recalled, "No, I actually went and said, 'Oh, we have practice in like 15 minutes.' Then we had meetings in two hours," illustrating how athletes engage with complex social issues while maintaining professionalism.

Acho also emphasized the importance of athletes and sports media in fostering civility nationwide, sharing his perspective in an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital. He noted the dynamic discussions in NFL locker rooms and the broader impact of sports on societal discourse.

During a preseason game at Ford Field in Detroit, 74 players of the Buffalo Bills were observed against the Detroit Lions, underscoring the ongoing engagement of professional athletes in competitive sports.

Acho’s comments highlight the potential for sports to model respectful dialogue and accountability, encouraging athletes to use their platforms with integrity.
