Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska has declared she will oppose President Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Todd Blanche, narrowing his path to confirmation. Murkowski’s opposition marks a significant intra-party challenge to the nomination.

In a separate development, President Donald Trump has ordered a new 15% tariff on imported products made of polysilicon, a key ingredient in microchip manufacturing primarily produced by China. The tariff is set to take effect on 4 December 2026.

This measure aims to support US supply chains for chips and solar panels, enhancing competitiveness against Beijing in sectors critical to artificial intelligence and energy.
