President Donald Trump renewed his call for Congress to pass the Protect College Sports Act ahead of the upcoming recess, emphasizing the urgency of the legislation during a White House celebration of Team USA's achievements at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

On Thursday night, Trump hosted more than 120 athletes, coaches, staff, and representatives from Team USA in the East Room of the White House. He highlighted the critical role of the collegiate athletic system, stating it is "the engine of American Olympic dominance," with college athletes comprising 88% of Team USA representatives at the Games.

Trump urged both the House and Senate to come together, ideally in a bipartisan manner, to pass the Protect College Sports Act and send it to his desk for immediate signing. "We have to get that done," he said, warning that failure to act would be "very foolish" and could jeopardize the future of college sports and the athletes involved.

The bipartisan bill aims to provide the NCAA with enhanced antitrust legal protections and establish a uniform framework for college athletics, including regulations on Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) compensation and the transfer portal. While details about potential amendments remain uncertain, Trump expressed hope the bill would reach the Oval Office soon to safeguard the traditions of college sports.

During the event, Trump also noted ongoing efforts to protect women's sports and preserve cherished sporting traditions nationwide. The reception celebrated Team USA's success at the Winter Games, where American athletes earned a total of 57 medals, including 25 gold.

Whether the Senate will act on the Protect College Sports Act before recess remains unclear, but Trump's remarks signal strong executive support for the legislation.
