Clinton emphasized the need for Democrats to unite ahead of the 2026 midterms, citing the Michigan Senate race where progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed is challenging Republican Mike Rogers. She noted that El-Sayed’s supporters must learn to reintegrate with defeated candidate Haley Stevens and her supporters, who had been "vilified" online and in person.

Podcast host Kara Swisher pointed out to Clinton that the Democratic Party is experiencing a tense internal struggle between its establishment and progressive wings, a division that Republican opposition has learned to exploit. Clinton warned that GOP attacks branding hard-left socialists as "communists" could be "very effective," adding, "I assume that they have reason to believe that it's effective, or they wouldn't be beating the drum on it."

Despite these challenges, Clinton noted that such "scare tactics" did not prevent the rise of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a figure associated with the left wing of the party.

Clinton also reflected on past reluctance within the party, saying, "You know, there was a lot of reluctance to support Kamala Harris. There was a lot of reluctance to support me when I got the nomination. So, it can't be a one-way street."

She concluded with a reminder of the ultimate goal: "But we also have to win general elections."
