On Friday, August 7th, 2026, President Donald Trump publicly urged Congress to pass the "Protect College Sports Act," warning that without it, women's and Olympic sports could disappear. Writing on Truth Social, Trump described the bill as "a great Bill," expressing hope that the Senate would remain in Washington, D.C., until its passage.

Trump stated, "Nobody has done more to protect Women Athletes than me — and this Bill CLEARLY protects the Laws in 27 States protecting Women's Sports, and banning Men from Women's Sports." He further emphasized the urgency, saying, "We have to get that done. If we don’t, we’re very foolish. Nobody knows what will happen. We’re in Never-Never Land. We’re not going to let that be happening. We’re not going to let that happen to these great people and others."

The president also called for bipartisan cooperation, urging the House and Senate to come together to send the bill to his desk for signing, stating, "I think we have no choice."

These remarks followed similar comments made by Trump the previous day while welcoming U.S. Olympians to the White House Rose Garden.

In addition, the White House released an official memo on Friday to clarify misconceptions about the bill. The memo stated that the Protect College Sports Act would not override existing state laws that prevent biological men from competing in women's sports, affirming that states retain the authority to legislate on this issue.

The legislation is currently progressing through Congress. If it clears both the House and Senate, it will be sent to President Trump's desk for approval.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon has also highlighted the importance of protecting women's sports, referencing the Supreme Court's ruling upholding transgender sports bans and addressing concerns about fairness, lost opportunities, and safety for female athletes.
