An appeals court recently imposed a two-week hold on the $400 million construction of former President Donald Trump’s White House ballroom, prompting criticism from Trump on social media. This development coincides with growing scrutiny over Todd Blanche’s nomination to lead the Department of Justice.

Following Senator Lisa Murkowski’s announcement that she plans to vote against Blanche’s confirmation, Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican from Louisiana and former physician, has emerged as the only other holdout. Cassidy expressed concerns about Blanche’s ability to lead the Justice Department independently, citing Blanche’s previous role as Donald Trump’s personal lawyer.

Cassidy said this week that he is worried Blanche may not maintain the necessary independence required for the position, given his past association with Trump. The acting attorney general currently cannot afford another defection to secure a permanent appointment.
