Typhoon Dolphin lashed Japan's southern Okinawa prefecture on Saturday, August 8, 2026, injuring five people and causing power outages to approximately 14,000 buildings. Authorities reported that five elderly individuals in Okinawa, three of whom fell due to strong winds, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another person was injured in Kagoshima prefecture, where nearly 39,000 buildings lost power, compared to just over 12,000 affected in Okinawa.

Domestic airlines ANA and Japan Airlines canceled flights to and from Okinawa. As of 3am GMT (11am Singapore time), the storm was located about 160 kilometers northwest of Kume Island in Okinawa, moving northwest at 15 km/h, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The typhoon recorded maximum sustained winds of 162 km/h with gusts reaching 216 km/h.

China has taken precautionary measures ahead of the typhoon's expected landfall between Zhoushan city in Zhejiang province and Fuding city in Fujian province. The China National Meteorological Center forecasts winds of 38 to 45 meters per second near the storm's center and warns that some areas of eastern Zhejiang could receive more than 600 mm of rain.

Ningbo Lishe International Airport in Zhejiang announced it would halt operations from 11:30 pm on Saturday and suspend all flights on Sunday. In Taiwan, 78 international flights were canceled due to the typhoon, the government said.
