Typhoon Dolphin lashed Japan's southern Okinawa prefecture on Saturday, August 8, 2026, injuring five people and cutting power to approximately 14,000 buildings. Three of the injured elderly individuals fell due to strong winds, while another person was injured in Kagoshima prefecture, authorities reported. Nearly 39,000 buildings lost power in Kagoshima, with just over 12,000 affected in Okinawa.

Domestic airlines ANA and Japan Airlines canceled flights to and from Okinawa. As of 3am GMT (11am Singapore time), the storm was located about 160 kilometers northwest of Kume Island in Okinawa, moving northwest at 15 km/h, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. The typhoon recorded maximum sustained winds of 162 km/h with gusts reaching 216 km/h.

China's National Meteorological Center indicated that Typhoon Dolphin is most likely to make landfall between Zhoushan city in Zhejiang province and Fuding city in Fujian province, bringing winds of 38 to 45 meters per second near its center. Forecasters warned that some areas of eastern Zhejiang could receive over 600 mm of rain.

In preparation, Ningbo Lishe International Airport in Zhejiang announced it would halt operations from 11:30 pm on Saturday and suspend all flights on Sunday. Additionally, Taiwan canceled 78 international flights due to the typhoon.
