Democratic senators remain supportive of Troy Jackson, the Maine Senate nominee who replaced former candidate Graham Platner on the ballot, despite a recent report alleging that Jackson fathered two children with his second cousin, Lana Pelletier.

Platner withdrew from the race following multiple scandals, including sexual misconduct claims. Jackson was chosen by the Maine Democratic Party in a delegate vote this summer, securing 94% of the 601 votes to replace Platner.

The report, first published by Maine Wire editor Steven Robinson, has not swayed most Democratic lawmakers. They stress the critical need to win swing state races like Maine to regain a majority in the U.S. Senate, a challenging task given that incumbent Senator Susan Collins, a moderate Republican, has held the seat since 1997.

Independent Maine Senator Angus King declined to comment on the allegations, stating, "I have no idea what you’re talking about and I’m not going to comment on it anyway."

Supporters of Jackson highlight his commitment to working people. One stated, "Troy Jackson is somebody who's obviously in this fight for working people," and emphasized the importance of winning the seat to address issues like rising costs and corruption in the Senate.

Meanwhile, critics accuse Collins of aligning closely with former President Trump and claim that personal attacks on Jackson's family are "shameful and desperate."

Jackson’s nomination and the surrounding controversy come as the Democratic Party focuses on securing key Senate seats in the upcoming November election.
