The humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate amid ongoing conflict, displacement, and significant funding shortages, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported on Monday, August 10th, 2026.

RSF forces have surrounded El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, threatening a full-scale assault that has driven civilians to seek safety in the city and its surroundings. Meanwhile, fighting in West Darfur's Sirba locality has displaced approximately 18,000 people from over 20 villages in the past week, with most fleeing across the border into Chad, according to the UN migration agency IOM.

Funding shortfalls have forced the closure of three health facilities in Central Darfur, leaving around 75,000 displaced people without access to essential health services. Sudan's $3 billion humanitarian appeal is currently only 40 percent funded, with $1.2 billion received so far this year.

OCHA emphasized the urgent need for greater civilian protection and highlighted the insecurity around El Obeid as a critical concern driving displacement. The UN Envoy is working with partners including the African Union, the League of Arab States, and the East African bloc IGAD to achieve a cessation of hostilities and advance negotiations between conflicting parties.
