Victoria Police have arrested five males aged between 16 and 18 in connection with 11 homophobic attacks reported in the Greater Dandenong area of Melbourne. Authorities allege the group used dating apps and social media to lure victims to various locations, where some were sexually assaulted and robbed.

Since January 2024, police have received 113 reports of similar attacks statewide, resulting in 47 arrests. Overall, nearly 50 individuals have been accused of such offenses over the past three years.

Acting Inspector Jarrod Dwyer described the alleged attacks as concerning and emphasized that "everyone has a right to go about their lives, meet new people and start a relationship in safety." A Victoria Police spokesperson said investigators continue to collaborate with dating app platforms, issuing proactive safety messages including reporting options and support services.

Victoria Police also confirmed that a dedicated LGBTIQA+ Liaison Officer is available to provide support to anyone affected. The police reiterated that "there is no place for it in our society, and it will not be tolerated by police."
